Subnautica 2 developers explain Game as a Service Claims from their Publisher
The game will have regular updates, similar to the early access model from previous games.
In a recent Financial Report, Krafton, the publisher for the Subnautica games, detailed that Subnautica 2 would be a Single or 1 to 4 multiplayer game with a Game as a service Model, which didn't sit well for fans, as this kind of model is considered as a bad practice for some, especially in games shouldn't need it.
2⃣ In reference to "Games-as-a-Service," we simply plan to continually update the game for many years to come, just like the previous two Subnautica games. Think our Early Access update model, expanded. No season passes. No battle passes. No subscription.

Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the developers for Subnautica 2, quickly clarified what their publisher meant by their statement, especially with the mention of a Game as a service Model, when in reality, as they said, they "plan to continually update the game for many years to come, just like the previous two Subnautica games" similarly to the Early access Model they followed for their previous games, "No season passes. No battle passes. No subscription."
The game will have multiplayer, but it will not be the main focus of the game; it will just be another feature available.
Krafton has made an update to their slide that contained information about Subnautica 2. They removed the part that mentioned "Game as a service Model with enhanced replayability" to prevent any further misunderstandings. Although the game will still be considered as having a Game as a service Model, it won't have many of the features that are often frowned upon in other games that follow this model.
