God of War Ragnarök is coming to PC this September, but there's a catch
Less than two years after its original release, Kratos's latest journey comes to PC, but some countries might not get to see it.
As time passes, it seems that Sony is releasing their exclusive games on PC earlier and earlier; games like Marvel's Spider-Man and God of War (2018) took four years to release on PC, but as more games are released, the time between console and PC release has become shorter, with games like Horizon: Forbidden West which took just over two years, and now, PlayStation has announced God of War Ragnarök will be coming to PC on September 19, 2024, a mere one year and ten months after its original release, barely nine months after the Valhalla DLC.
Jim Ryan said on May 2023 that a couple of years was the more accepted timeframe for releasing PS5 games on PC, but it seems that they are slowly inching closer to less than a couple of years; as Hermen Hulst stated even before that, it would be "at least a year," which does not contradict the other statement but does give a shorter timeframe.
God of War Ragnarök on PC will include the full game, the Valhalla DLC, and several PC enhancements, including Upscaling tech, unlocked Frame Rates, and Support for Ultrawide Monitors.
There is one small detail that might deter a few people, the trailer confirms that the game will require a PlayStation Network account, though it didn't specify for what; it might be like Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, where it is optional and is required for the PlayStation Overlay, but it also means that it will likely be restricted in over 170 territories just like Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut and Helldivers II, even though the latter no longer requires a PSN account.
Sadly, there is nothing to do against it; despite PlayStation lifting the PSN requirement on Helldivers II, the region restrictions remain, and it being optional on Ghost of Tsushima didn't stop them from adding the same restrictions.
