PlayStation announced the PS5 Pro, and it is a pricey upgrade
Compared to its standard equivalent, you'll get better framerate and slightly better graphics for $700.
PlayStation has announced the newest version of their console, the PlayStation 5 Pro, a better version of the already existing PS5, making it run some of the more demanding games at better qualities and an increased framerate, so those who play on performance mode 75% of the time might notice an increase in image quality.
Price
The PlayStation 5 Pro will have a price of $699.99 USD | £699.99 GBP | €799.99 EUR | ¥119,980 JPY, a noticeable increase compared to its standard equivalent, the PlayStation 5 Slim which when announced had revealed prices of $449.99 USD | £389.99 GBP | €449.99 EUR | ¥59,980 JPY, and that is compared to the Disc Driveless version of the console, as the PS5 Pro doesn't include one either, you'll have to purchase it separately if you want to play physical games; When considering the improvements over the standard version, the $250 price difference doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. However, it might be due to the inclusion of the 2TB SSD.
Improvements
The PlayStation 5 Pro is set to feature several substantial upgrades, including a boosted GPU with more Compute Units and faster memory, advanced Ray Tracing for dynamic reflection and refraction of light, and AI-driven upscaling technology leveraging machine learning to achieve better image clarity and detail. These enhancements are designed to minimize the disparity between Performance Mode and Fidelity Mode, resulting in improved frame rates in Fidelity Mode and superior image quality in Performance Mode.
Launch
The new version of the console will be released on November 7th, 2024. It will include the console itself, a DualSense Controller, and the game Astro’s Playroom pre-installed. Astro’s Playroom is the precursor to Astro Bot, which is PlayStation 5's latest exclusive game. It also showcases the console's capabilities and the features of the DualSense controller.
