Sega announces Sonic Generations Remaster, Sonic X Shadow Generations
With a title like that, Sega is likely trying to hide some less appropriate search results.
During PlayStation's During PlayStation's State of Play, Sega announced a remaster of Sonic Generations, Sonic X Shadow Generations, coming this Fall, though no exact release date has yet been revealed, but given the theme, they might be aiming to release on the anniversary of the original.
In 2011, Sonic Generations was released to commemorate Sonic's 20th anniversary. The game tells a story about Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic meeting in a white void and embarking on a journey through familiar zones. They aim to restore color to those places, free their friends, and fight against Modern and Classic Eggman.
Sonic X Shadow Generations will include remastered levels, new extra content, and a new story involving Shadow and his own levels based on his side of the adventure in all the games he was involved in.
Some concerns have arisen since rumors of this remaster began circulating days before the announcement. Sonic Generations had a 3DS version that focused more on Sonic's portable history, so it is uncertain if this content will be included in the remastered version. There is also concern that the Steam Page for the game will replace the original, rendering fan content such as mods obsolete, as it has happened before.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
