Mortal Kombat 1 will have a Part 2 and a Big Surprise coming
Ed Boon, Co-creator of Mortal Kombat, has confirmed that the game will have a continuation.
Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest game in the series; it was named like that due to the ending of the previous game resetting the timeline, causing some kind of Reboot, but somehow still part of the main continuity.
Recently, Ed Boon has confirmed some plans for the game in the near future. Like with the previous game, they will release a second Part, likely a story taking place after the end of the main story, probably setting the foundation for any future story they plan to tell.

Mortal Kombat 11's Aftermath expansion not only added a new story, but it also included new stages, new playable characters, new fatalities, and Friendship Finishers, so Mortal Kombat 1 is most definitely adding tons of things in this upcoming Part 2 if they are doing it like last time.
He also mentioned "a big surprise after that," which is probably some big announcement when the expansion is out, maybe not the next Mortal Kombat, as he said they would support this game for longer than Mortal Kombat 11, but since no timeframe was specified, other than the next couple of years, it is still up in the air when any of this will be officially out.
