Like a Dragon Gaiden
Kazuma Kiryu's English VA asks fans to wait until the game is released before judging
Professional Voice actor and Youtuber Yong Yea has been receiving some criticism for being the voice of Kiryu.
Some time ago, it was confirmed that Yong Yea a Professional Voice actor and Youtuber, is going to be the new English voice for Kazuma Kiryu on the new Like a Dragon games, recently he gave fans a little taste of his performance during a panel at Anime Expo, and some people are not liking it.
He then shared a cleaner version of the same lines he said during the panel, where he also asks fans to wait for the final game to see how he actually did, as these are all recorded without any kind of direction.
He also mentioned that these are not the official English dialogues, as he said that these are him reading the subtitles of the trailer, in case you think that these dialogues sound cornier in English, maybe to not spoil how they decided to localize the dialogues.
In any case, a lot of the comparisons seem to be with the Japanese voice in mind, and considering that, sure, his voice doesn't seem to come close, as they are very different ranges, but what seems to be happening really is that Yong Yea's performance seems to be a lot closer to the previous English voice for Kiryu, Darryl Kurylo, in terms of voice that is, so let's wait and see when the game comes out and see how he actually does, there's no case in judging based on a voice actor reading a trailer's subtitles.
