What are Natures in Pokémon and how do they work
Ever wondered why some of your Pokémon have a blue and a red stat? That is one effect of their Nature.

A Pokémon’s Nature can mean different things; when talking about combat, it is what defines which stat is higher than average and which one is lower; there are 25 different natures, 20 of which are combinations of one stat raising and one stat lowering, while the other 5 are the overlapping combinations, where no stat is affected.

Natures and Mints
Natures will affect only 5 of the 6 stats; HP will not be affected by any of these natures, meaning that there are 25 possible combinations and are as follows, ordered by which stat they raise:
- +Attack: Lonely (-Defense), Adamant (-Sp.Attack), Naughty (-Sp. Defense), and Brave (-Speed).
- +Defense: Bold (-Attack), Impish (-SP. Attack), Lax (-Sp. Defense), and Relaxed (-Speed).
- +Sp. Attack: Modest (-Attack), Mild (-Defense), Rash (-Sp. Defense), and Quiet (-Speed).
- +Sp. Defense: Calm (-Attack), Gentle (-Defense), Careful (-SP. Attack), and Sassy (-Speed).
- +Speed: Timid (-Attack), Hasty (-Defense), Jolly (-SP. Attack), and Naive (-Sp. Defense).
- Neutral: Hardy, Docile, Bashful, Quirky, and Serious.

There are 21 different Mints, each named after the Nature they mimic, and 1 for the neutral effects; these will only change the stats and will not be considered during other Nature-dependent mechanics, such as Berries or passing down a Nature through Breeding.
Berries
There is a set of Berries that, when held, will heal the Pokémon when necessary but may confuse them if they dislike them; this is dependent on the Pokemon’s Nature; some natures like some flavors and dislike others; these berries will only confuse them if they dislike the taste, if they like them or are neutral to them, nothing will happen other than the heal.
Using Mints won’t change the Pokemon’s Nature, only their Stats, meaning that the Berries effects won’t change, as these rely on Nature.
The Berries are as follows:
- The Figy Berry will confuse Pokémon with Attack hindering natures (Bold, Calm, Modest, and Timid)
- The Iapapa Berry will confuse those with Defense hindering natures (Gentle, Hasty, Lonely, and Mild)
- The Wiki Berry will confuse Pokémon with Special Attack hindering natures (Adamant, Careful, Impish, and Jolly)
- The Aguav Berry will confuse those with Special Defense hindering natures (Lax, Naive, Naughty, and Rash)
- The Mago Berry will confuse the ones with Speed Hindering Natures (Brave, Quiet, Relaxed, and Sassy)
