Pokémon Scarlet and Violet doesn’t have a set order of which Gyms you can do. However, the game doesn’t make it easy, as the difficulty remains the same regardless of which Gym you challenge first; considering the level of Larry’s Team, his is the Fifth recommended Gym to challenge.
How do you get to the Normal-type Gym?
The Normal-type Gym is located in Medali; the shortest route to get there would be from Cascarrafa, cross the desert, and follow the path East as you exit; there is no obstruction in your way if you are following the recommended order.

Doing the Gym Test
The Gym Test, this time, is found at the local eatery, where you are tasked to order the Secret Menu Item, which, to find out, you have to follow the hints given to you by different trainers found around town; when defeated, they’ll say where to find out a part of the Secret Menu item; or if you already know the Secret Item, talk with the waiter and ask for Grilled rice balls, Medium serving, Extra crispy, Fire Blast style, Lemon and the Gym Test is complete.
Battling the Gym Leader
First Battle
Larry specializes in Normal-type Pokémon, weak only to Fighting-type, and immune to Ghost-type moves. No Pokémon in his team has any other weakness as he Terastalizes his Staraptor into Normal-type.
Larry’s team comprises Komala (Lv. 35), Dudunsparce (Lv. 35), and a Staraptor (Lv. 35) that he Terastalizes into Normal-type.
Komala has the move Yawn (induces Sleep), and Dudunsparce has the move Glare (Induces Paralysis), which if your Pokémon gets affected by either of these, it will boost the attack of Staraptor’s move Facade, which is already getting a Boost from the Terastalization.
Rematch
During the post-game, you’ll challenge him again, now with a stronger team: Oinkologne (Lv. 65), Komala (Lv. 65), Braviary (Lv. 65), Dudunsparce (Lv. 65), and Staraptor (Lv. 66).
The battle remains mostly the same, with Braviary being the only Pokémon with different typing during the battle, as it is Normal/Flying, which changes the Weaknesses to Electric, Ice, and Rock-type moves and the resistances to Grass and Bug-type moves and adds the immunity to Ground Type moves, Staraptor would also have this immunity, but Terastalization removes it.
