Rise of the Ronin didn't cancel a Korean release, it was never launching there
The decision might be due to the game being set in an era that negatively affected Korea.
Some news started spreading the information that the game Rise of the Ronin canceled its release in Korea, as different pieces of media began disappearing from the country. From the looks of it, it is technically correct, but mostly because it seems Sony confirmed that it was never meant to come out in Korea.
Sony told different mediums such as GamesIndustry.biz that the game was never planned to release in South Korea in any way or form, not even digitally; the reasoning behind this is still unconfirmed, but it could be speculated to be due to various reasons, like the game's director, Fumihiko Yasuda's admiration of Shōin Yoshida, a scholar who sought to conquer other countries to strengthen their military, among those countries was Korea, and his comment comparing him to Socrates.
Considering that the game will be set in the 19th century Bakumatsu period in Japan, it is not hard to speculate that some historical figures might be referenced or make an appearance in the game, including Shōin Yoshida, and seeing that the game will be placed in a Japanese perspective it is definitely not going to be appreciated by people from the country affected during that era, though this is just speculation as the real reason was not disclosed, but is more likely that it was for a similar reason.
Rise of the Ronin will be released to the rest of the world on March 22nd, 2024, only on PlayStation 5.
