Gears of War is bringing you back to its origin
Experience the day when the Locust just invaded the surface, and Marcus Fenix was younger.
Xbox has announced the next Gears of War game, Gears of War: E-Day, and it is taking us to the beginning of all, Emergence Day, the time when the Locust emerged to the surface to invade the world from above them.
We are being taken so far back to a world where these monsters were something unknown and terrifying, to the point that the weakest enemies we have known are more dangerous, a time when some of the world was not yet equipped to fight back these menaces, as shown in the trailer, Marcus is wielding an MK1 Lancer, it is because the Chainsaw model won't be present, at least not for a while.
The trailer caters to the feeling of nostalgia as it plays a new rendition of the song 'Mad World,' which played during the trailers for the older Gears of War games, signaling a return to the origins. In Gears of War: E-Day, we'll get to see tons of familiar faces, including Marcus Fenix, Dominic Santiago, and other beloved characters.
The story is set 14 years before the first Gears of War game when Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago weren't as close, and the only connection they had was the loss of Marcus's Best friend and brother to Dom, Carlos, who died during the Pendulum Wars, the last Human conflict before the Locust invasion.
While this is a return to Marcus Fenix as a protagonist and the Locust menace, it doesn't mean that they are rebooting the series nor that they will be abandoning the storylines we got from Gears of War 4 and 5; they just decided to revisit the original setting, but they will be returning to the current time at a later game.
The game has no release date yet, but it will definitely be released on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
