Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 confirmed as a Game Pass release
While the release date is still unknown, we now know that you won't need to buy it to play it.
Microsoft has confirmed on a live-action trailer that the next Call of Duty will be a Day One Release on Xbox Game Pass, meaning that as soon as it releases, Game Pass players get to play the game immediately; more information will be revealed on the Black Ops 6 Direct on June 9th, 2024, right after the Xbox Showcase.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 still has no release date confirmed, but it should be revealed during the Black Ops 6 Direct; as for platforms, it should be expected to come to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. PS4 and Xbox One might still be an option, and Xbox has signed a 10-year contract to bring Call of Duty games to Nintendo Consoles, but it is still unclear if it will start from this Call of Duty for the Nintendo Switch or if it will start on the next Nintendo Console.
There is a chance that this Call of Duty won't be the first of the 10-year contract Xbox had made with Nintendo, as it was likely already in development before the acquisition, making the first one likely to release in 2025 on the next console, whether they release Black Ops 6 there when the next console is out or they decide to develop the next CoD with Nintendo's console in mind.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is another example of the developers not deciding how to number their games. The first of the sub-series was World at War, and the second was Black Ops. Then they went with Roman numerals for Black Ops II, III, and, oddly enough, IIII. Later, they decided that Black Ops 5 didn't need a number and made Black Ops Cold War. Finally, they decided to abandon the previous naming conventions and went with Black Ops 6.
